Global Game Jam

The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event which takes place in various locations around the world. The event was initiated in 2008 by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). It traditionally takes place on the last weekend of January and stirs a global creative buzz in the gaming world. It explores the process of development, whether programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression in a single weekend (48 h) development cycle. GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity.

With an emergent and highly creative community, CGL has been hosting the Global Game Jam Cologne since 2010.

In 2016 Global Game Jam Cologne took place from January 29-31 at CGL in Mülheim, Cologne. Participants were invited to explore new technology tools, try on new roles in development and test their skills, to design, develop, create, and make a new game in just 48 hours. With 120 participants on site and 25 games developed, the 2016 GGJ was the greatest game jam event in CGL´s 7-year history as a host in Cologne. See for yourself at globalgamejam.org.

Big support for the Global Game Jam 2016 at Cologne came from Famobi. They were great partners preparing the event!
