Global Game Jam

The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam event which takes place in various locations around the world. The event was initiated in 2008 by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). GGJ traditionally takes place on the last weekend of January and stirs a global creative buzz in the gaming world. It explores the process of development, whether programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression in a single weekend (48h) development cycle. The event encourages individuals of various backgrounds to participate and contribute to the global spread of game development and creativity.

With an emergent and highly creative community, CGL has been hosting the Global Game Jam Cologne since 2010. For the 2019 edition we changed location and joined forces with the recently established Cologne Game Haus, Europe’s biggest co-working and start-up game house.

In 2020 Global Game Jam finally came back to CGL!

In 2021 we unfortunately had to cancel the Global Game Jam at CGL due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but at this point we really hope for it to return in 2022! If everything goes to plan, we will be hosting the annual 48h-hour game development happening from January 28-30, 2022! Participants are invited to explore new technology and tools, experiment with new roles in development and test their skills, to design, develop, create, and make a game from scratch.
