Join us for a ‘Micro-Conference’ at CGL!
The guests: Two preeminent Game Studies scholars, Michael Nitsche (“Video Game Spaces”, MIT Press 2008) from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Mirko Schäfer (“Bastard Culture!”, Amsterdam University Press 2011) from the University of Utrecht.
Mirko Schäfer: “Making Culture: implicit and explicit participation as modi operandi of cultural production”
Michael Nitsche: “On Action: Performance and Production in Play”
We have to thank Benjamin Beil, Pablo Abend, and Vanessa Ossa of the Department of Media Studies and Theater of the University of Cologne for this exceptional opportunity, since both Nitsche and Schäfer are coming to Cologne to take part in their conference “Participative Practice in Games” that same week on April 8. Nitsche and Schäfer will discuss different aspects of their research alongside presentations by the organizers themselves and the anthropologist Thomas Malaby. There will also be a pre-conference event on April 7 (in German language) and a modding workshop by Thomas Hawranke on April 9.
