Guest Lecture:
Dr. Seth Giddings

Our next Guest Lecture is coming up on Wednesday, December 05, featuring Dr. Seth Giddings from the UK. Dr. Seth Giddings is a renowned media scholar and game studies researcher from the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. His talk is entitled “Out of the Box: Toys as Technology in Everyday Play” and will shed some light on his ‘micro-ethologist’ approach to studying ephemeral phenomena, such as children’s play. Seth is a media and cultural theorist, and occasional media artist. He not only wrote the fascinating book “Game Worlds: Virtual Media and Children’s Everday Play” and is responsible for the editing of several media studies anthologies, but has also published a remarkable essay entitled “Bright Bricks, Dark Play: On the Impossibility of studying LEGO” in Mark J.P. Wolf’s “LEGO Studies“.

The talk will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 5:30 pm in the Auditorium. The talk is open to the public and does not require any registration.
